Make an Organic Yeast-Free Pizza

You can make a quick, delicious and yeast-free pizza with organic ingredients that takes less than an hour from mixing the dough to eating your pizza.

Personally, I enjoy using Spelt flour as it has many nutritional benefits and has a texture that is nearly the same as white flour thus can be replaced in any recipe that you presently have. The only difference is, you just need to use slightly less liquid than what is called for in the recipe that you are converting.

You can find out more about Spelt by following this link:

Here's a recipe for yeast-free pizza dough that I found some time back that I use with success. The ingredients can be found in your local health food store.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2 cups flour
1 tablespoon Aluminum-free Baking Powder
1/4 tsp sea salt
2/3 cup water (use slightly less if using spelt flour)
1 tablespoon oil - Cold Pressed Olive Oil or Sesame oil adds a nice taste

Prepare the pizza pan with a bit of oil and a sprinkle of corn meal. Combine dry ingredients, add liquids (don't put all the water if you are using spelt flour) and stir. Knead dough by hand on a lightly floured surface. Roll dough thinly and place in the prepared pizza pan.

Use a prepared organic marinara sauce. Spread the sauce onto the pizza dough. Add grated mozzarella cheese and then...

Make your pizza your own individual creation. You can add extra Italian spices such as oregano and parsley. Make it more spicy with garlic, onion, hot red peppers. Add several types of cheese such as sharp cheddar, smoked Gouda, Irish cheese, Parmesan or any kind of cheese that you enjoy. Add your favorite meat or veggies or fruit. Have lots of fun creating it.

An additional trick that my Italian Grandpa taught me was that when the toppings are on, right before putting the pizza in the oven, sprinkle a little oil over the top.

When you have your pizza creation ready, bake it at 400 degrees for 18-20 minutes. The best way to tell if your pizza is ready is by looking at the crust - it will get a slight golden brown. You can let your pizza get as toasty as you like - from lightly toasty to very toasty.

When your pizza is finished, take it out of the oven and out of the pan - place it on a cutting board or counter and let it cool for a few moments before cutting. Then, enjoy!

Contributor's Note

I'm not a professional cook or baker. I wrote this intel from my experience as I have been a vegetarian now for 30 years. However, I am a junk food junkie. I love my cookies, pizza and other goodies - so I have found ways to turn junk food into good food.
